Status quo says that staying in the Philippines, particularly in the capital area, entails that you endure ridiculous floods during the rainy season. I mean, I've experienced all these things back in the province but this is ridiculous! Floods have become as deep as one man tall and commuting has become impossible.
I woke up this morning particularly feeling light that my energy for work has actually and miraculously returned despite the rainy weather. I do my work and anxiously wait for 12nn to be able to get home and rest. Come 12 and I find our building's basement half submerged in rain making it look like a make-shift swamp. My office mate battled the weather treading the knee-high flood as she placed her car in higher ground. I was happy since I loved the rain but I guess sunshine and butterflies would never last as I realized that there was no other way to get home. Manila was practically a sinking boat and it brought everyone down with it. Talk about abandon ship.
To make the long story short, I'm now stuck here at school together with my office mates trying to find ways to remotely survive this storm. I had an unhealthy lunch and now just a cup of noodles of dinner. Talk about Survivor, First Academy edition. I feel a bit bad now though that I'm dry since a friend of mine who lives in a dorm had her things lost to the flood. She lost her printer and practically her drawings as well. I'm really sad most that she lost her artworks as it's our lifeline. Her clothes are gone as well and she's wet while staying at the second floor of her building. Please help me pray for her and the rest of the people who are stranded due to the flood.
I'm keeping it positive though and trying to look at the bright side. I'm with my office mates and I'm guessing sleeping is now trivial for us. I don't have plans on going home despite the fact that the trains are back online as I don't want to get mixed up in the stampede of humans scurrying about to get home nor do I have plans re-experiencing submerging my footwear on 3 feet of black canal water while trying to race among rats and roaches to get to dry land. Now I'm starting to miss my friends from the province as we were always together. We slept in our office as well back in college when the storm was bad and we had so much fun along the way despite being wet. Nostalgic and melancholy are some of the feelings I hold now and worry as well for the others.
To my fellow Filipinos who are experiencing this ridiculous phenomena, I pray you're doing ok. God help us all.
